Activity Description

The SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) Instructor Program is a comprehensive three-day training course designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to become proficient SUP instructors. This program covers essential SUP techniques, safety protocols, and effective instructional methods. Participants will engage in hands-on training, shadowing lessons, and receive access to detailed instructional guides to ensure they are fully prepared to teach stand-up paddleboarding.

Day 1: Fundamental SUP Training

Morning Session:

Introduction to stand-up paddleboarding and program overview
Safety briefing and essential safety measures
Handling, assembly, and setup of SUP equipment
Paddle and board operation techniques
On-land practice: Carrying and maneuvering SUPs
Cleaning and maintenance of SUP gear

Afternoon Session:

On-water practice: Basic SUP techniques on beginner boards
Proper stance and paddling techniques
Transitioning to different positions on the board
Balancing and stability exercises
Weight shifting techniques for improved control

Day 2: SUP Instruction Basics

Morning Session:

Understanding various SUP board types and their uses
Building confidence in participants
Familiarizing with different SUP configurations
Preparing mock lessons: Assembling boards, setup, and conducting safety checks
Conducting independent lessons with instructor supervision
Assessing client progress and ensuring safety
Enhancing instructional techniques
Troubleshooting common issues

Afternoon Session:

On-water practice:
Navigating slalom courses with different SUP configurations
Leading a lesson with an instructor shadowing (role reversal)
Post-lesson review and feedback
Mid-course assessment and feedback session

Day 3: Advanced SUP Instruction and Assessment

Morning Session:

Review of previous training sessions and techniques
Advanced instructor techniques and client management
Understanding client psychology and adapting teaching methods
Emergency procedures and safety drills
Teaching advanced SUP maneuvers and strategies
Handling diverse water conditions and environments

Afternoon Session:

On-water practice:
Performing advanced tricks and maneuvers
Conducting group lessons and managing multiple clients
Handling challenging client scenarios
Evaluating and addressing advanced technical issues
Final assessment and certification

Participants who successfully complete the program will be certified as SUP instructors, ready to confidently lead and instruct stand-up paddleboarding sessions.

WeatherThe SUP Instructor Course runs throughout the year as dealing with tough conditions is a part of your training.
What to WearWear clothes that you are comfortable getting wet. Preferably swimming clothes with a rash vest. Bikinis are welcome, but please ensure you have a towel to cover up.

Inclusions

Lockers: Secure lockers are available to store your personal belongings during the course.

Instructor Shirt: Each participant will receive a SUP instructor shirt.

Changing Rooms and Showers: Access to changing rooms and showers for use during and after lessons.

Kitchen Facilities: A kitchen is available for participants to prepare their own meals.

Equipment: All necessary equipment is provided, including:

Stand Up Paddleboards (SUPs)
Lifejackets
Paddles

Exclusions

Towels: Participants must bring their own towels.

Sunblock: Sun protection is not provided; please bring your own.

Sunglasses: Participants are responsible for bringing their own sunglasses.

Hats: Please bring your own hats for sun protection.

Drinks: Beverages are not provided; ensure you bring your own drinks to stay hydrated.
